1.49 On 1 July 2011 the Independent Project Performance Office (IPPO) commenced operating, which gave effect to a key procurement reform announcement made by Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith, and Minister for Defence Materiel, Jason Clare165.
1.50 The establishment of the IPPO also implements one of the key outstanding recommendations of the Mortimer Review into Defence Procurement and Sustainment, which called for an office to be established within the DMO to review projects and assist project teams to solve problems where necessary166.
1.51 The IPPO is responsible for the conduct and management of:
• Early Indicators and Warnings;
• Gate Reviews; and
• Projects of Concern
