Important questions to be considered include how they relate to surrounding buildings, how the local vernacular is considered and whether the materials can reduce visual impact. Responding to context overlaps with themes already considered, but materials selection is a key way in which a new development can relate to those around it. Colour, pattern and detail can all add identity and legibility.
