Do's

Make an inventory of the existing PPP's (incl. (informal) small and medium companies, NGO's etc.), improve their transparency and strengthen them to become more pro-poor.

Localize the PPP approach and programme.

Even though capacity building is the programme's main objective, include some concrete project activity, preferable a demonstration project, so people will become and stay committed.

PPPUE should include monitoring in the project, so that lessons can be documented and disseminated.

Don'ts

Include large private companies only; they will be less interested in local pro-poor projects when their benefits are not clear.

Have a 1 year capacity building programme without a clear exit strategy and follow up programme for elective members of parliament.

Exclude the private sector from capacity building programmes and awareness creation activities when the objective is to build trust between the partners.
