Major Achievements

With very limited resources the Nepal programme has been able to create an enabling environment for pro-poor PPP implementation. It has brought the public and the private sector together, changed policies and legislation in favor of PPP's and formed the basis for sustainable institutional arrangements to continue these activities in the future. The impact of PPPUE has been very cost-effective.

In particular, the Nepal programme made major progress through:

o  A PPPUE toolkit publicized in English and Nepali, including a training manual and trained PPP facilitators.

o  Policy development: Nepal Government recently passed a new PPP Act: "Private Investment in Infrastructure Development and Operation".

o  Dissemination of PPPUE through a National Conference on "Local socio-economic development through PPP".
