During the project period a noticeable improvement of conditions in participating areas was achieved. Waste separation was conducted involving a significant number of households and in general environmental conditions were improved. Various small and larger scale businesses are also involved in waste recycling and processing (such as manufacturing fashion items from discarded juice containers) and have proven successful. This suggests that there is potential to extend employment and entrepreneurial benefits to the urban poor.
