Engage with other government departments to identify and resolve particular policy issues that impede progress and threaten the delivery of the facilities we need. For example. to address Waste Disposal Authority concerns about the planning process affecting value for money and procurement timescales for waste management projects, Defra is working with the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to produce guidance on how those promoting the development of waste infrastructure can best engage with the planning system and secure a supportive planning framework. It plans to publish case study examples of good and bad planning practice, and to develop and maintain a picture of strategy and plan progress and content.
• Provide a clear pathway through the required interaction with the land use planning regime by:
• Encourage a fit for purpose regional planning framework
• Issuing guidance on site identification and acquisition.
• Issuing case studies illustrating both good and poor practice in seeking planning.
• Highlighting the impact on project timings of late interaction.
