Public perception has often been identified as a major barrier to the quick and effective implementation of the appropriate infrastructure. Authorities are advised not to close off technology choices too early but fearful of public reaction a number remain adamant that, for example, no form of combustion technology should be used. Others experience difficulties over establishing any form of waste treatment facilities.
WIDP will work with Defra colleagues to establish a proactive communications programme to improve understanding and promote discussion of the need to treat residual waste and of the characteristics of the various technologies available.
