1 OFGEM is the regulator of the UK gas and electricity markets, ensuring a well functioning and competitive market framework. National Grid has two main responsibilities. It's primary role is to ensure that there is adequate and reliable network capacity to meet anticipated transportation requirements and secondly, its role is that of the system operator of the transmission networks, for the residual balancing activity in both gas and electricity.
