The Challenges: Making the necessary investments

•  Close to three-quarters of our water and wastewater assets are buried underground - pipes that are often out of sight and out of mind. They are getting older and need to be replaced to keep our water safe and clean. In some Ontario municipalities, parts of the water systems date back to the 19th century. Wooden pipes are still in use in Ontario.

•  It is more expensive to provide water and wastewater services in small communities than in larger municipalities.
