Maintenance expenditure will be consistent with industry standards.
- Recurrent and capital spending on asset maintenance is approximately 2.7 per cent of the Government's total physical asset holdings (excluding land), which are valued at $124 billion at 30 June 2005.
- The efficiency of the spend on asset maintenance will be monitored going forward as part of the Total Asset Management Program.
- The priority placed on maintaining infrastructure is reflected in the steady increase in spending. Examples of maintenance spending in 2006-07 include:
• The Department of Education and Training will spend $200 million on minor capital projects including maintaining toilets, roofs, painting and general classroom maintenance
• The Department of Health will spend $382 million on maintaining hospitals and equipment
• The Roads and Traffic Authority will spend $753 million on maintaining roads and equipment
