3.3 TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE

Changes in technology and its take-up by the community and industry increase capital expenditure.

- The rapidly increasing use of networks and linkages with mobile services has implications for information technology and telecommunications infrastructure and the way services are delivered by Government. The effect is particularly evident in capital expenditure by Police, Education and the Court system.

- Advances in medical technology are already having a significant impact on future infrastructure spending on medical equipment in Health and this will continue.

- Technological change also increases the demand for skilled workers.4 This will mean that industry will require specialist education services, to equip the next generation with requisite skills.
