3.4 INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENTS

An important role for Government infrastructure is to support industry.

- Transport links are particularly important for industry. The M7 WestLink, and the related employment lands in Western Sydney, identified in the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy, are a growing area for distribution and logistics businesses.

- As our economy grows, trade continues to expand. This is driving a 7.4 per cent growth per annum in freight transport and will lead to an expected doubling of freight traffic (including containers) on Sydney's roads over the next 15 years.5 The expansion of Port Botany and Port Kembla along with related road and rail improvements will complement this growth.
