THE NEXT FOUR YEARS

- New funding for the Auburn and Liverpool (Stage 2) hospitals redevelopment at an estimated $512 million.

- Planning will continue in relation to a number of hospitals including the Northern Beaches, Wagga Wagga, Bega, Westmead Stage 2, Lismore, Parkes, Tamworth and St George.

- Ongoing development of integrated primary health care centres and transitional care.

- Major upgrades of metropolitan and regional hospitals will be completed including hospitals at Bathurst, Concord, Gosford, Royal Prince Alfred, Westmead and Wyong, and the upgrade of Royal North Shore continuing.

- New and improved mental health facilities on the Central Coast, in the Sydney metropolitan area, the Illawarra and Mid West regions at an estimated $62 million.

- In order to expand capacity across the State, at least 300 new mental health care beds are proposed across speciality services for children and adolescents, adults and older people with a mental health illness.

- This enhancement and expansion of mental health services will include construction of a new 135 bed forensic hospital at Malabar at an estimated total cost of $65 million.

- Initiatives to better integrate healthcare include Integrated Primary Health Community Care Centres (IPHCCS) to provide a 'one stop shop'. This will bring together GPS, community health workers, allied health and other health professionals to provide multidisciplinary care that will encourage early diagnosis, disease prevention and co-ordinated management of chronic and complex conditions. Ten centres are initially being progressed, with four to eight expected to be established in 2006-07.

- New radiotherapy services at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie and enhanced cancer treatment services in other areas across New South Wales will be completed at a total cost of $65 million.

- Further upgrades to rural hospitals and health services including Dunedoo, Guyra, Junee, Portland, Tingha, Tottenham, Tullamore, Walcha, Batlow, Berrigan, Bingara, Bombala, Merriwa, and Warialda.

- Five new ambulance stations will be delivered, in Dubbo, Liverpool, Auburn, Port Macquarie, and Ryde, all aged ambulances replaced and new medical equipment purchased.

- High priority technology projects include electronic health records, medical imaging (especially in rural areas), and health technology to introduce and replace diagnostic and treatment technologies.
