THE NEXT FOUR YEARS

- Nine new schools and one replacement school will be delivered under a further Public Private Partnership arrangement adding to the nine schools already delivered under private financing.

- Upgrades to school educational facilities across New South Wales with $262 million being spent currently on projects at 24 primary and 33 high schools and for 18 new projects commencing in 2006-07. Funding will also provide new libraries and school halls.

- 10 Trade Schools at high schools will be established over the next three years with funding of $13 million. These facilities will provide further opportunities for students to undertake trade and other vocational training.

- Major upgrades to 25 TAFE facilities at a cost of $164 million for projects commencing in 2006-07 and in progress from last year will ensure that existing facilities are best utilised to meet the needs of the business community, maintaining New South Wales TAFE as the largest workforce provider in Australia.

- The final stage of the $107 million four year program for the provision of additional classrooms at schools for the Class Size Reduction Program will be completed in 2006-07. This will ensure that State wide average class sizes of 20, 22 and 24 for Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students are achieved.

- The ongoing State-wide Demountable Replacement Program will deliver 27 classrooms, 10 libraries and two administration facilities to replace the current demountable facilities at an estimated cost of $19 million over the next two years.

- 100,000 new high-speed computers for schools will be purchased with funding to improve bandwidth, providing better access to online resources.

- Extra funding of $120 million over four years for school maintenance will allow additional works to be undertaken to provide a quality learning environment for both students and teachers.

- The installation of 35 security fences will be undertaken in 2006-07 to complete the Government's 2003 commitment to construct fences at 200 schools. In addition, a further 32 schools will be provided with fences.

- In 2006-07, the construction of five new school halls will commence and toilet facilities will be upgraded at 90 schools.
