THE NEXT FOUR YEARS

- In 2006-07 the Government will spend $462 million on infrastructure to improve public order and safety. Of this $363 million will be spent on justice agencies including:

• $111 million on Police

• $128 million on Corrective Services

• $116 million on Courts

• $8 million on Juvenile Justice

- The $330 million Parramatta Justice Precinct in Sydney's second central business district will provide six specialist Children's Courts, eight criminal trial courts and a new Justice building for over 1,200 staff.

- The Western Region Correctional Centre at Wellington, estimated at $126 million, will provide capacity for 500 inmates.

- A new 500 inmate capacity prison is due to be built and an additional 500 beds added to existing prisons at Cessnock and Lithgow, at an estimated cost of $258 million.

REDUCING CRIME THROUGH TECHNOLOGY - A SMARTER, MORE RESPONSIVE JUSTICE SYSTEM

- New and upgraded police stations including Armidale, Campsie, Corrimal, Dubbo, Fairfield, Lismore, Muswellbrook, Orange, St Mary's and Wagga Wagga to be delivered at an estimated cost of $186 million.

- A new 85 bed Prison Hospital at Long Bay Correctional Centre. This is part of a joint project with the Department of Health which also includes the construction of a forensic hospital at estimated total cost of $130 million.

- DNA storage facilities are to be provided to enhance crime detection.

- In 2006-07, $11 million will be invested upgrading and replacing equipment such as the purchase of a helicopter and infrared imaging system, water cannon, continued upgrades of New South Wales police's marine and motor vehicle fleets, and additional equipment for the new Public Order and Riot Squad.

- A partnership with the private sector to focus on improvements to the maintenance and management of police property which includes the construction of new police stations.

- Video conferencing facilities estimated at $9 million are to be expanded to improve the speed of justice services.
