This section provides a description of the various contract types that a municipality can adopt with the private sector for the delivery of services. While each has distinct characteristics, it is important to recognise that in practice, these model contracts are moulded to suit existing requirements. One rarely finds a contract that reflects all the aspects of the model (see Box 8.3). This is particularly marked in developing countries and is a key distinction between contracts developed and implemented in the North and South.
