This chapter discusses the fundamental principles of partnerships involving the large-scale private sector. The discussion links with the preceding chapters that focused on the actors, scope and content, and on organisational and contractual aspects of a partnership framework focused on the poor. It focuses on the basic requirements for establishing sustainable public-private partnerships (PPPs), addressing the principles of transparency, accountability, specificity, legitimacy, flexibility, equity etc., as well as those specifically pertaining to PPPs for the poor.
