Land acquisition

The acquisition of land could be a major source of risk to any investor in greenfield infrastructure projects, particularly road and rail projects. In order to reduce the problems of land acquisition, the Government has given priority to the use of public lands for infrastructure projects. If necessary, the Government on behalf of the investor acquires the private land required for a project. In situations where the investor is required to negotiate with the owners for the purchase of land, the Government assists the investor through its use of the right of eminent domain.
