Underway

•  Upgrades to a number of waste water treatment works are currently underway
together with new trunk mains, a programme of investment in small treatment works,
a significant mains rehabilitation programme and work to address unsatisfactory
discharges from the sewerage system and reduce leakage.

•  Rivers Agency will continue to implement the EU Floods Directive within the
defined timescales.

-  The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment is complete and a report on the findings will be available to the public in December 2011.

-  A food risk management plan for Belfast is being progressed.

-  By December 2013, we will have completed the development of the detailed food mapping for the areas identified as being at significant food risk.

-  Central and local government will work with the public Rivers Agency to develop Flood Risk Management Plans.

•  The construction and maintenance of flood and sea defences to protect people and alleviate damage to property is one of the Agency's primary functions. Within the available funding. Priority will also given to culverts in need of repair to help avert failure and thereby help ensure public safety. Drainage infrastructure works will also be provided to help ensure that the flood risk to new and existing development is managed.

•  Rivers Agency has engaged with key stakeholders on the policy development which will inform the Reservoir Bill.

•  Each of the three Waste Management Group projects has completed key phases of the Preparation Stage, and two are on target to reach contract award in the period December 2011 to February 2012.

•  In 2011/12, Rethink Waste Fund grants totalling £1.78m have been offered to councils to fund a total of twelve capital projects. Additionally, ten projects by the Community & Voluntary and Private Sector have also been approved for grant funding totalling £0.5m.
