Almost £430m has been spent supporting our productive infrastructure and helping to improve the efficiency of our public services. Some of the key achievements were: • A total of £88m of financial assistance has been offered by Invest NI to companies which along, with other forms of revenue assistance, has leveraged almost £2.6 billion in planned investment. • The Titanic Signature Project (Titanic Belfast) is due to open in spring 2012, in time to mark the centenary of the Titanic's maiden voyage. It is estimated that this iconic building will attract 400,000 domestic and overseas visitors on an annual basis. • The Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre building is on track for completion by June 2012. The park and ride facility from Bushmills to the Giant's Causeway is operational. • The Farm Nutrient Management Scheme (FNMS) provided £121m of grant aid to assist over 3,900 farmers with the costs of modernising effluent management infrastructure. By 31 March 2011 the NI Rural Development Programme had issued letters of offer worth over £40m to help improve agri-food industry competiveness, farm modernisation, and the quality of rural life. Under the European Fisheries Fund £5.1m in grant funding has been committed to help the sector modernise and improve competitiveness, to improve facilities at fishery harbours, to reduce discards through improvements in gear selectivity and to improve fuel efficiency. • The Biomass Processing Challenge Fund has supported the adoption of renewable energy technology through the installation of biomass boilers and anaerobic digesters. By 31 March 2011 we had invested £1m in anti-poverty measures, helping to alleviate rural fuel poverty and in rural childcare, and £1m to deliver increased rural access to Next Generation Broadband. • The creation of Enterprise Shared Services - brigading IT Assist, Network NI, Records NI, Account NI, HR Connect and the Centre for Applied Learning, established a single delivery organisation to provide common platforms for key Finance, IT and HR shared services across the Northern Ireland Civil Service and various Arms Length Bodies. |
