Capital investment within the justice community is already underway to support the delivery of these critical front line services. • Approval has been secured to build a joint services training college at Desertcreat near Cookstown to cater for the Police, Fire and Rescue and Prison services. This investment will prepare staff for real-life scenarios and where co-operation and co-ordination are vital to deliver a high quality service. The £200m individual capital training needs of the three services have been combined into this project costing up to £139m. Work is due to start in 2013, with the college opening two years later. • The redevelopment of the prison estate with a focus on reducing the risk of re-offending as well as secure, decent and safe custody is currently under consideration. £54m has been set aside for this over the next four years. • As part of this redevelopment, work is underway to consider how women's facilities can be improved. • A strategic assessment of the Forensic Science Agency's infrastructure need has resulted in a capital allocation of £12m to improve and augment its facilities. |
