6.3  Communication Plans

While the detailed "Project Plan" is considered to be the key to successful project delivery it is equally important that complex projects are supported by associated Communication Plans" Good communication does not just happen. It requires careful planning and implementation.

A Communication Plan should consider:

•  Who the Project Team need to communicate with

•  What level of communication is needed

•  The frequency and timing of communications

•  The most appropriate method of communication

The objective of the Communication Plan is to ensure the timely and appropriate distribution of project progress. The frequency and timing of communications would depend not only on the stakeholder but also on the stage of the project and the intensity of progress.

The information from the Stakeholder Analysis, current and preferred levels of interest and influence, should be cross-referenced to the Communication Plan to ensure all stakeholders have been identified and tailored arrangements put in place to manage their communication needs.
