Traditionally Force Majeure Events were events for which insurance could not be obtained and are even less within the control of the parties than Relief Events. It should be noted that unlike the other Delay Events Force Majeure Events can apply throughout the Contract Period (see paragraph 27.1) and like Relief Events, both parties can be affected by a Force Majeure Event. The party affected by the Force Majeure Event will be relieved from all of its obligations under the Contract so in the case of a Force Majeure affecting the Contractor which prevented it from completing the Facilities by the targeted Completion Date the Contractor would effectively be given extra time to finish it but it would not get Money.
A Force Majeure Event may eventually lead to termination of the Contract - please see paragraph 27.1.
