3.6  Transfer of Facilities

3.6.1 The key transfer dates of services into the new facility should be widely publicised to internal and external stakeholders whether service providers or users.

3.6.2  Key milestones, such as completion of the commissioning process and first patient day, should clear. Local people, GP's and other key groups should be encouraged to visit the facility on open days.

3.6.3  Patient representative groups should have been consulted about the design of the facility to ensure that it meets their needs. These groups should be kept up to-date with the details of the commissioning master plan. Requests for visits should be well organised and where possible permitted. Whilst this may be resource intensive for large projects it is important that user groups are properly engaged. Such groups may also be engaged to assist in communicating with service users.

3.6.4  The Migration Plan needs to be carefully co-ordinated regarding the transfer of existing and delivery of new equipment. If a large percentage of fixed equipment is to be transferred, a considerable amount of support will be required to dismantle and refit items in the new facility. Risk assessments should be undertaken as required. Awareness of the impact that a large move or the delivery of large amounts of equipment may have on a local community is key. There should be communication with local residents/ establishments to advise of what is planned and when and who to contact in the event of an issue. During this period it is important to have procedures in place for maintaining clinical and other services.
