3.14.1 The main criterion is that the area selected for the storage of furniture and equipment should be secure and clean, that the risk of water or other damage is low, and that it is reasonably accessible to the new facility and for deliveries.
3.14.2 There may sometimes be spare space which, the provider can use to house furniture and equipment. There are various options.
• The commissioning team should be aware that design teams utilise industry standard graphics for equipment on CAP drawings. These may not match the size of equipment finally selected.
• Local warehousing, although it will inevitably be a cost against the project, is sensible if there is no spare space available close to the new facility. This option should be assessed in the Full Business Case to ensure appropriate allowances are made in the project cost.
• Early handover of part of the new facility could be built into the contract in order to make storage facilities available within the development. This option is not always possible.
• The last area or development to be commissioned could be used for storage.
