7.3  Long and short-listing

It is often the case that an options appraisal undertaken for MWMS purposes considers a reasonably wide range of options so that it can be demonstrated (during the consultation phase prior to adoption) that a comprehensive range of options has been considered.

A shortlist of options may have been identified within the MWMS as broadly consistent with the outputs sought within the MWMS. This may provide an ideal starting point for the options appraisal at OBC stage. However the process for identifying options at the MWMS should always be re-examined to ensure that no options have been excluded or included on the basis of criteria that are not appropriate at the OBC stage.
