The initial ranking process may be partial For example returning to the example set out in Table 2 it can be seen that Option E is clearly the lowest ranked option as there are no other options which are more costly and it has the lowest score. It is also possible to conclude that Options B and D are both superior to both of Options A and C as they have higher scores and lower cost. The relative ranking of Options A and C is not a critical issue but the choice between Options B and D will be decisive in determining the technology for the Reference project.
Further steps are therefore required to finalise the outcome of the options appraisal.
