6.1 Joint Waste Authorities are a new form of statutory body which have been introduced by Part 11 (Sections 205 to 211) and Schedule 13 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. These provisions nable the Secretary of State to establish Joint Waste Authorities as distinct, single-purpose local authorities dedicated to specific waste functions within their area.
