Transportation Planning Process

DelDOT annually updates its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which also is the state's six-year Capital Transportation Plan. The STIP is adopted by the Council on Transportation.

Legislative Role in Transportation Planning

DelDOT presents the Capital Transportation Plan to the General Assembly's Bond Bill Committee and the operating budget to the Joint Finance Committee for committee approval, before they go to the full legislature for approval. In addition, the state has a Community Transportation Fund, from which legislators can each determine the use of an annual authorization for road and drainage projects in their respective districts. This fund allows individual lawmakers to address small transportation projects that may not meet DelDOT priorities.
