The General Assembly notifies SCDOT of hearings on any transportation-related bills so SCDOT may testify. The General Assembly has a lower level of staff support, and expects state agencies like SCDOT to perform research when requested. SCDOT monitors bills and contacts key legislators when bills will affect SCDOT. The secretary of transportation also contacts legislators regarding important or urgent transportation matters. SCDOT employs a dedicated legislative liaison.
