1.13.13 Ceiling Finishes
The ceilings should be of good quality with a true, even and well-aligned finish, and provide appropriate surface spread of flame performance. Ceilings may comprise exposed metal grids supporting high quality tiles, or rigid ceilings may also be incorporated.
The building structure should not project below the level of the suspended ceiling and no bulkheads are permitted6. All ceilings (except to Custody) are to carry across the head of proprietary partitioning to allow maximum flexibility of room layout. Ceilings should fully co-ordinate with the services' requirements and must provide all necessary access to these with ease of access and prevention of damage being paramount.
The ceiling, suspension and grid systems should be sufficient for partition fixing, and remain stable when tiles or panels are removed for service access or replacement.
Moisture resistant ceilings will be required in areas such as kitchens, changing rooms, showers and toilets7.
