1.14.3 Access Points
(Insert the number of access points that are required) access points for both vehicles and pedestrians should be designed to provide higher levels of security in emergency situations with the capability to either increase or restrict access and egress. The design should ensure:
■ Rapid and direct access onto the public highway for operational vehicles responding to emergency call outs;
■ Vehicular and pedestrian access MUST be configured to keep people safe from vehicle movement, especially those responding to an emergency callout; and
■ The ability for fire appliances to be driven to the rear of the station and enter the appliance bay forwards via the appliance bay rear doors.
■ The use of emergency only additional break out points is generally required in respect of Police Buildings and should otherwise be considered where the particular site allows.
