1.2.11  Sub-Structure

The Contractor shall design and specify a foundation solution that will avoid differential settlement and damage to the building.

The design of the foundations shall be such that the building loads can be transmitted into the ground without undue distortion to the building. The choice and type of foundation shall be adequate to support the proposed structure. The foundations shall be sized to suit the safe bearing pressure with a suitable factor of safety applied in order to limit settlement.

The design of the foundations shall also be in accordance with the recommendations made within BS8004 and BS8110 - 1:1997 and any other relevant British Standard or Code of Practice.

Concrete in contact with the soil shall be in accordance with the recommendations for durability contained in BS8110 - 1:1997 and BRE Digest No. 363.
