1.2.16 Windows and External Doors
All glass shall be toughened glass as a minimum standard, the thickness to be in accordance with Building Regulations 15.
Metalwork will be finished with a PVF2 powder coat finish which shall have a minimum life of 25 years.
Window boards shall be of a minimum 25mm thick sustainable hardwood, varnished to a semi-matt finish, with a mastic seal at the frame/board junction and at the board/wall junction (underside) to match the window section.
Window reveals to reinforced glass block windows shall be finished with a 45 degree splay.
Where stated on zone data sheets, blackout blinds will be fitted. These shall be in the form of a rolling cloth blind with side rails and a head enclosure.
Public vision into operational / sensitive areas must be prevented.
All windows (excluding Custody Suite) shall be fitted with blinds internally unless otherwise stated in zone data sheets.
Curtains are to be provided where noted on the zone data sheets. These are to be of a heavy duty, fire retardant quality, lined, with pull cord application.
Solar reflective double or triple glazing, hermetically sealed units shall be provided where solar gain / acoustic requirements dictate
Louvres shall be constructed of powder coated aluminium with a factory fitted fly screen to the internal face.
External doors shall be framed over a steel core and shall incorporate solar reflective double or triple glazing. Unless otherwise stated doors shall be outward opening, fitted with concealed closers, and shall have full height anodised aluminium push/pull bars to both faces. Quick release ironmongery will be fitted to all emergency exits and all doors will be fitted with a suited deadlock (with thumb-turn where stated). The Contractor shall carry out all necessary removal or remedial works in accordance with all current and foreseeable legislation and associated practical guidance.
External doors must be vandal-resistant. They must incorporate appropriate controls and / or fittings to discourage misuse but afford safe operation and adequate security.
All doors other than for maintenance purposes must be designed to allow disabled access, including access for motorised electric wheelchairs.16
Where appropriate draught lobbies are to be provided. These shall be configured so that single person passage at normal walking rate does not cause both doors to open at the same time.
