1.2.18 Doors
Doors shall be of a clear opening suitable to their purpose and sized to permit ease of access, egress and escape.
Double doors in circulation areas must have non-rebated meeting stiles.
Be suitable for the end users in terms of door weight and with suitable closing/opening mechanism to assist.
Doors across corridors and where listed on the Zone Data Sheets must include vision panel(s) to provide visibility suitable for all including wheelchair users.17
The integrity of doors and frames to stock rooms, strong rooms and the like must be such as to withstand malicious entry.
Locations and requirements for doors for building compartmentation must be agreed with the Fire Authority. Fire standards must be in accordance with current building regulations
Doors shall have acoustic properties and performance adequate for the functionality and use of the space in order that overall dB ratings (as per the zone data sheets) are met.
All doors including fittings, furniture, vision panels and ironmongery to be fire rated in accordance with the fire officer's recommendations18.
Doors are to be robust and adequate for their use. As a minimum, doors shall be provided with19:
■ 1½ pairs stainless steel butt hinges
■ latch
■ deadlock (thumb turn where stated)
■ lever handle with back plate (offices, etc)
■ 'D' pull handles (corridors)
■ kick plates, both faces
■ dado level protection to circulation doors and doors in high traffic areas
■ door stop(s)
■ flush bolts, high and low level, (to half leaf doors)
■ overhead closers
Unless otherwise stated, internal doors are to be of solid core laminate faced flush timber construction with a hardwood edging, incorporating a single full height clear fire resisting proprietary wire free glass vision panel, hardwood trim, semi matt varnish finish.
Doors into offices, meeting/conference rooms, kitchen/dining room and stores are to comprise one-and-a-half leaves with a smoke seal fitted at the meeting of doors.20
Doors within circulation routes shall be double width and double swing, closers to be concealed.
Door frames, stops and architraves shall be of (renewable source) hardwood with a semi-matt varnish finish and conform to Building Regulation requirements. And as a minimum, this shall comprise: 25mm deep stop to door frame, combined intumescent strip/smoke seal and 75x25mm architraves.
Ironmongery will be stainless steel. All handles will be 'bolt through'21.
