1.2.24 Sanitary Appliances
With each shower cubicle there shall be 2 bolt-through coat hooks, ideally back to back with coat hooks in an adjoining cubicle and a durable soap tray will be provided to the shower wall. A shower curtain shall be incorporated which will carry into the shower tray so as to limit the spread of water and raised proprietary matting shall be laid over tiling within the drying area of the cubicle and within the larger drying area immediately outside the cubicles. Alternatives such as prefabricated units will be considered.
Sanitary Fittings shall also comply with the following requirements:
■ Low-level cisterns to WCs concealed where possible.
■ WC seats to have robust fixing to pan
■ Size and fixing height of sanitary ware must be appropriate for its location (including taking into account the needs of disabled persons).
■ Robust and tamper proof mixer taps with timed delivery
■ Wash hand basins need to be fixed to a solid structure and may require centre leg support.
■ Mirror fixing height (measured from floor to bottom edge) must be appropriate for the intended users.
■ Fixtures and fittings in toilet areas must be sufficiently robust to avoid vandalism.
■ Lobbies to all toilet areas are required.25
