2.2.2 Services Distribution
Where it is unavoidable that pipework has to run within generally inaccessible ceiling voids, such pipework should be welded/soldered and have no pipe joints in straight runs unless longer than standard pipe lengths. All such pipe runs should be kept to a minimum and should be pressure tested prior to the commencement of insulation and ceilings.
Regulation and general isolating valves, dampers, etc, should be located within the main distribution route zones and these should have accessible ceilings.
Local isolation valves on final connections to sanitary fittings and equipment, etc, should be located at the sanitary fittings and equipment but concealed behind readily removable access panels.
The ductwork layout should be designed to avoid large pressure drops across any dampers. In particular, any dampers near grilles and diffusers should be restricted to trimming purposes only.
Maximum water velocities in pipework should be as listed within the CIBSE Guide.
