3.6  Windows and Curtain Walling

Windows, including roof glazing, shall allow for the natural light to enter the Facility whilst providing the appropriate air tightness, thermal insulation levels and limiting solar gain.  All windows shall be 'safe' in closed and open positions and at the time of replacement the windows shall conform to Building Regulations.

All glazing is to meet the recommendations of Sport England and HSG 179 with regard to the direct sunlight and the avoidance of glare, and reflections on water, to ensure and allow safe supervision by lifeguards and supervisors.

All windows shall:

 to open and close freely as per their design;

 provide good visibility, maximise natural daylight, provide views from a seated position where appropriate. Wherever possible, both "active" and "passive" views from the windows shall be provided;

 contain glazing of a type compliant with health & safety Legislation to reduce the risk of injury;

 be designed and constructed to enable safe maintenance and cleaning.
