4.3 Finishes
All new finishes and fittings shall be in line with the Authority's Environmental Strategy and DDA requirements.
Without prejudice, generally, the Contractor shall select finishes on the basis of the following:
• to comply with the requirements contained in the Handbook of Sports and Recreational Building Design, Vol. 1 - 3 and Sport England and Sport Organisations Guidance notes, or the current requirements of sports governing bodies. In establishing the most appropriate material the Contractor shall take into account the standard of performance of the sports and activities to take place;
• accessibility considerations;
• appropriateness;
• durability;
• robustness/ Impact resistance, to ensure good appearance and low maintenance;
• compatibility;
• maintainability;
• suitability for life-cycle replacement;
• co-ordination with other finishes;
• colour and light reflectance, relative to the requirements of activities;
• slip resistance.
• ease of cleaning, including access for same;
• due consideration to acoustic performance, particularly adjacent to rooms where ambient noise levels need to be minimised to meet the Authority's Environmental Policy.
All wall finishes and backgrounds shall be selected and installed in accordance with appropriate British and European Standard Specifications and Codes of Practice.
The Contractor shall ensure that all floor, wall and ceiling finishes include adequate provision for movement joints, in accordance with current recommendations, to cater for any movements of the structure and/or the background material of the finish. The Contractor shall ensure that the location and detail of the joints shall be fully co-ordinated with the overall interior/exterior design.
Where computers are installed, surface reflectance, surface colours, and brightness management shall be co-ordinated to meet the requirements of the "HSE (Health and Safety Executive) Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992" or as amended.
External finishes shall be of high quality (both aesthetic and longevity) and shall be appropriate to the building and its occupation
All finishes must meet the requirements of the Authority's environmental policy.
