Further advice on urban design public realm improvement work is contained below. The principles such as legibility, designing out crime etc. are expected to be demonstrably evident in the public realm works proposals.

10 Each Authority needs to consider whether the transfer of public realm maintenance will offer value for money, having regard to the extent of public realm, its importance in a comprehensive neighbourhood management arrangement, and the cost of having these works undertaking these works using the Authority's wider environmental services teams.
