Critical Infrastructure Centre

On 23 January 2017, the Government established the Critical Infrastructure Centre (the Centre), within the Attorney-General's Department. The Centre will work across all levels of government and with critical infrastructure owners and operators to identify and manage national security risks to our most critical assets. The work of the Centre will complement the all-hazards approach set out in the Australian Government's Critical Infrastructure Resilience Strategy. Initially, it will focus on the electricity, water and ports sectors. This work will also support the existing FIRB process by providing clear, consolidated and early national security advice to inform FIRB decision making. These national security changes do not change the Australian Government's commitment to an open, transparent, and non-discriminatory investment regime. Instead, the new approach will provide greater certainty and clarity to investors as to the potential requirements for certain asset sales.
