Focus on collaborative governance

The 2019 Audit highlighted that planning, delivering and operating Australia's infrastructure is being made more complex by an increased understanding of the interdependencies between social, economic and environmental domains.

In addition, citizens' expectations and demands on governments are growing, and are often evolving faster than governments can accommodate.

Planning and infrastructure governance needs to carefully reflect the nature and defining characteristics of the city or infrastructure project and meet community expectations.

Cities also need governance models that incorporate meaningful engagement, and include the views of all levels of government, business and community.
