AEMO reviews gas demand and supply plans once a year through the Gas Statement of Opportunities. However, the gas and electricity systems are complementary. The Integrated System Plan should consider national planning for gas networks and hydrogen together with the electricity system at scale to co-optimise gas and electricity systems. This should identify opportunities for using existing gas assets to support biogas and the hydrogen economy, as well as consider the National Gas Infrastructure Plan that is being developed by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.
